Rockin'
Down the Highway |
|
| New
from Voyageur Press, (an imprint of MBI/Motorbooks Publishing) the
fifth rock & roll history book from Paul Grushkin: ROCKIN'
DOWN THE HIGHWAY: THE CARS AND PEOPLE WHICH MADE ROCK ROLL. |
|
With the help of more than 1,000 evocative
images, including many not previously seen in print, prominent
rock historian Paul Grushkin presents the expansive celebration
of the unholy marriage of music and machine.
With
an appreciation for all genres of popular music— Rock
& Roll, R&B, rockabilly, surf, soul, psychedelia,
punk, funk, folk, hip-hop, and more—Grushkin riffs on
the associations that artists have had with cars, through
both their songs and everyday lives. The author also turns
the table to show how leading figures from the automotive
realm have played a persistent part in the world of popular
music.
The
result is massive and mind-bendingly illustrated, thanks to
scores of car-related musical ephemera, imagery from many
leading photographers from around the world, and some of today’s
top rock-poster artists who have created exclusive art for
the book.
The
relationship between rock and cars has been long and rich—Rockin’
Down the Highway is the long-overdue and glorious tribute.
Rock
on! |

The
Art of Modern Rock |
Presenting
Paul Grushkin, one of the top rock & roll historians in the
US. With a hundred-poster PowerPoint presentation, he lectures on
the history of rock & roll through concert posters, from Elvis
Presley's time--and on through psychedelic and punk--to the newest
alternative rock of 2005. He's the author and co-author of four
best-selling rock & roll histories, including The Art of
Rock, regarded worldwide as "the bible" on rock posters.
Grushkin's newest is Art of Modern Rock: The Poster Explosion,
the long anticipated followup artbook covering the past fifteen
years of rock history, which is "designed to grab attention
and kick out the jams," according to the New York Times. Like
its predecessor, it includes nearly 500 pages of the best rock poster
art, with the new book representing 1,800 posters--the work of 378
artists worldwide.
