“New York Times” best-selling author of on the “Down Low,” and Essence best-seller of “Coming up from the Down Low,” philanthropist, publisher, and producer.His first book, On The Down Low, A journey into the lives of Straight Black men who sleep with men, has sold over 500,000 copies and was on the New York Times best selling list for 30 consecutive weeks, and his second book, Coming Up From The Down Low made the Essence best selling list as well as several other best selling lists. He also has co authored and or published two other self published best selling books.

His expertise has been cited in over 100 national publications including Jet, Newsweek, Time, Sister to Sister Magazine, Ebony, People, The New York Times, and Essence Magazine. He also has been featured on more than a thousand web sites. His television guest appearances have included the Oprah Winfrey Show, PBS, Bet, CNN, The Discovery Network, and over 80 national news shows. King has consulted with several national health and education organizations, and lectured at numerous universities and colleges throughout the country. He also has presented at over 150 state and national conferences.He was named one of the top 50 most Intriguing African Americans for 2004 in the November issue of Ebony magazine.
   

When he is not working or writing he works as President and CEO of The Lillie Mae King foundation. A family foundation he founded to provide financial support to Black families who have been impacted by HIV/AIDS. He is currently working with youth writers that aspire to become authors through his JL King Young Minority Authors Institute and kicking off a national writing contest.

He also is the founder and publisher of Just Living Magazine, an upscale Atlanta based lifestyle magazine that promotes the good life of people who enjoy life to the maximum.JL is currently working with a major network on a made for television movie project about his life story that should be released in the very near future.

His new book will be released Simon and Schuster Publishing, New York in February 07.  He is a former member of the United States Air Force where he proudly served 8 years on active duty.  He currently resides in Atlanta and is a proud father.
