From
TomKat to Britney, Brangelina to Lindsay, Perez covers
it all. Love him or hate him, Perez has quickly established
himself as a celebrity in his own right, and symbolizes
the Web’s ability for an outsider to become a
sensation. Today, Perez’s fame is skyrocketing,
and he can be seen frequently on VH-1 and MTV. He is
also filming his own reality series, which will air
later in 2007.
Perez
Hilton, a Cuban-American, grew up in Miami, and has
been an actor, magazine writer, and publicist. He started
blogging because it seemed a perfect combination of
everything he loved, namely “Celebrities, Gossip,
and Fame.” In a short amount of time, his
website has become the premier site for celebrity news.
Perez is not without controversy, and detractors. His
comments on celebrities are sarcastic, cutting, and
sometimes even cruel. His crusade to “out”
many closeted gay celebrities has earned him the wrath
of some gay advocacy groups. Perez, gay himself, feels
that the only way to make progress is with visibility.
His columns helped encourage celebrities like Lance
Bass and Neil Patrick Harris to publicly reveal that
they are gay. |
